What Exactly Is the Car Wash Skirt

What Exactly Is the Car Wash Skirt

Let us introduce you to one of fall's up-and-coming trends: the car wash skirt. You might've briefly met the cut at the latest Dior, Public School or Jason Wu runway shows, or perhaps caught a glance of it on a few fashion-forward celebs, like Kendall Jenner. Now, it's time to start a relationship with the surprisingly versatile trend.

Not exactly pleats and thicker than fringe, the car wash skirt features fabric panels separated by slits—whatever the length, this sexy peek allows for movement, making it an eye-catching wardrobe essential.

Office attire doesn't have to be boring. Those skirt slits, for example, are just subtle enough to go undetected from HR but will surely turn heads as you walk to the water cooler. Pair the high-waist bottom with a cropped sweater (because it's somehow always freezing in the office) and lace-up flats, and you're ready to get down to business.

The car wash skirt is inherently preppy, but work in some edgy pieces and the casual contrast will get you through unlimited mimosas in style. Pair your panels with a chambray shirt tied up at the waist and a patterned moto jacket to make a statement. Whether you're hiding from the sun or concealing your hangover, animal-print sunnies can do you no wrong.

While the skirt may say, "I don't kiss on the first date," let the sheer top and bandeau bra tell your bae otherwise. It's always good to keep ‘em guessing, right? For extra impact, carry your essentials in a printed or embellished clutch and bring some color into the mix with statement shoes.

'Vogue' Announces Not One

CFDA/'Vogue' Announces Not One, But Three Fashion Fund Winners

The coveted CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund prize has an impressive list of past winners, including Alexander Wang, Altuzarra and Public School, so it was surprising to hear that at this year's 12th annual awards, there was not one, but three winners announced.

Rather than award a single grand-prize winner the top prize of $400,000 and two runners-up $150,000, Anna Wintour, Diane von Furstenberg, CFDA CEO Steven Kolb and the other members of the selection committee chose to award womenswear designer Jonathan Simkhai, shoe designer Aurora James of Brother Vellies and Rio Uribe of streetwear label Gypsy Sport each $300,000 to invest in their line. Each winner will also receive a year of mentoring from top industry executives.

According to Fashionista, the unconventional decision to evenly split the coveted top prize was made only hours before the event, which was held at New York City's Spring Studios on Monday evening. "We decided it only this morning as we were voting...for this year only we would mix it up and acknowledge three winners," Kolb told the trade.

Plenty of celebs turned up to support the up-and-coming designers, too, including budding style star Zendaya, supermodel Karlie Kloss and Demi Moore. Amanda Seyfried also accompanied Givenchy creative director Riccardo Tisci to the event, where the designer was honored as the inspirational designer of the year.

Halloween 2015

Jay Z, Beyonce Dress Up in Coming to America Costumes for Halloween 2015

All hail the king and queen! Jay Z and Beyonce rocked matching costumes as Prince Akeem and Queen Aoleon from Eddie Murphy’s 1988 classic comedy Coming to America for a Halloween bash in NYC on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The musical pair were all smiles as they partied with pals at a private event at 1Oak nightclub.

The “Empire State of Mind” rapper, 45, channeled Murphy’s character in a crisp white shirt and bowtie, black tailcoat, slacks, and hat. Blue Ivy’s father even had a cat skin slung over his right shoulder, a la the prince.

Beyonce, meanwhile, donned a green-and-white patterned mini-dress, royal purple turban, leopard-print belt and stilettos — and didn’t skimp on the jewelry.

The 34-year-old singer wore a collection of large beaded necklaces and oversized gold earrings to complete her look.

Last year, the proud mom of Blue Ivy dressed up as Janet Jackson to Blue’s Michael Jackson and shared the snapshot in a cute Instagram post.

“Janet and MJ,” she captioned the photo simply. In it, she kneels down to give her 3-year-old daughter a smooch on the cheek.

Where Alber Elbaz May Go Next

Fashion is shuffling its musical chairs — and scrambling to fill them — like never before. First came Dior's Raf Simons' decision to depart the historic French brand after three and a half years. And then on Wednesday, Lanvin confirmed with Pret-a-Reporter that Alber Elbaz — a red-carpet favorite in Hollywood — is departing the head design post at the label after fourteen years.

Elbaz was apparently a 10 percent owner of the company and stands to sell his shares for $50 million or more. Not only did the Israeli designer reinvent the brand — one of the oldest in fashion, celebrating its 125th anniversary in 2014 — he had his own "squad" of loyal superstar red-carpet clients: Emma Stone, Tilda Swinton, Natalie Portman (even with her association with Dior), Pharrell Williams, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore and Meryl Streep. Streep adores Elbaz so much, she presented him with the superstar award from Fashion Group International in New York just a few days ago.

Of course, tongues are wagging and heads are spinning all over the world about where Elbaz may be heading, which we can only assume is up, given his track record. For years, rumors have swirled that he was the natural heir to Chanel, where his feminine and very French sensibilities would be a perfect fit — when, and if, Karl Lagerfeld retires. However, now with Simons giving notice at Dior, all signs point to Elbaz heading in that direction. It may, in fact, be the reason Simons is suddenly departing — it's possible he was in talks with Dior before Simons' announcement. Speculation is that Elbaz was one of the first to meet with LVMH and the Dior brass when John Galliano was first ousted, but wasn't willing to jump brands at that time, due to that 10 percent stake in Lanvin.

Further signs of a possible Elbaz/Christian Dior future: Lanvin's longtime U.S. public relations director Julia Erdman is also leaving the company. Elbaz has long credited Erdman with helping build the celebrity arm of the brand and she has deep relationships with the actresses in his camp. Not only that, his very longtime staff member Hania Destelle in Paris left the company a few months ago. These signs also suggested that Elbaz, who's very loyal to his staff (as they are to him), was leaving and taking a big chunk of his team with him. Word is he cleaned out his office at Lanvin in Paris on Tuesday night, and will not complete Lanvin's pre-fall collection, leaving it to the company's design team. This is clearly a sudden and swift exit.

Apparently tension was already brewing at Lanvin prior to the vacant spot at the helm of one of two of the world's most prestigious luxury brands (Chanel being the other). Disputes between Elbaz and the company's owner, 73-year old Shaw-Lan Wang, and ceo Michele Huiban, have reportedly been ongoing. Elbaz is said to have disagreed with Wang's direction of the brand (she was a media person before taking ownership) and he hinted at facing major pressures when he gave his speech at FGI's Night of the Stars Gala.

It's clear Elbaz would bring something to Dior that the brand doesn't necessarily have — and he has in abundance: the star power of Emma Stone and Meryl Streep, among many other A-listers. Dior already has stars such as Charlize Theron, Marion Cotillard, Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman and more on their roster of paid "faces," but there are stories that some of these names weren't happy with Simons' designs for the red carpet and runway, the creations often seeming too avant garde for Hollywood. Of course, Simons also designed Dior Couture, which for a while got rave reviews, giving Elbaz the chance to create a major couture collection. There aren't many left of those, with Chanel, Valentino, Versace and Armani being the last of the big brands to still do couture. Even Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci stopped making a couture collection or showing it in Paris in favor of showing one-of-a-kind looks on actresses on the red carpet.

Lanvin's U.S. office confirms that their Paris headquarters is preparing an official statement on Elbaz's departure and it could be issued as soon as Thursday morning U.S. time. As to who will take the reigns at Lanvin, our guess is it will be an unknown from the Lanvin design team, probably the top designer under Elbaz. Gucci is having great success and turnaround with Alessandro Michele, an unrecognizable name before his appointment there, and of course, Valentino's formerly unknown successors have gone on to fame and glory as well.

Elbaz has held several significant jobs in the fashion design industry: he studied under Geoffrey Beene in New York; helmed the brand Guy Laroche in Paris in the mid-nineties, earning significant attention; and then brilliantly redesigned Yves Saint Laurent until Tom Ford was named creative director there. Elbaz's 14-year stint at Lanvin marks the end of an era for the label. He brought both classicism and modernism to it, continuing the aesthetic of its founder, Jeanne Lanvin — one of the first couturiers in fashion. Indeed, Elbaz's designs and his influence carried the brand's long legacy into the future.

Kylie Jenner's Gold Hair Tattoos

The Scoop on Kylie Jenner's Gold Hair Tattoos

Leave it to the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan to be the most interesting beauty influencer. From her nails to, um, her lips, to her ever-evolving hair streaks and length, no doubt beauty is a big part of why millions of social media hawks love scrolling through her feed.

Like most teens, Kylie Jenner loves to switch up her look: The latest change — strips of gold hair tattoos adorning her new short 'do — is a style she’s dubbed “a dope blunt haircut” on her social app of choice, Snapchat.

The “tattoos” are from hair accessory brand Scunci and work on the hair and the skin. According to the brand, Jenner was sent some of the product to try and was then spotted wearing them on her jet-black bob during a photo shoot at her home.

Each strip is applied to the hair just like a temporary tattoo is to the skin — only these will probably highlight flyaways and bed head a whole lot more.

These glittery gold designs seem like a great idea to try around the holidays. But by then, Jenner will have moved on to a new beauty trend, or three, so there’s no obvious copycatting. Though, with the way she's having a mega effect on beauty, it may not be such a bad thing.

Sultry Cut-Out Body Suit

Kylie Jenner Flaunts Dynamite Legs In Sultry Cut-Out Body Suit

Every single Kylie Jenner photoshoot seems to be sexier than the one before! In her most recent shoot, which she did special for her insanely successful app, the 18-year-old headed into the depths of the desert, and posed in what could probably be described as a dominatrix bodysuit. Oh, and she was also posted up against the flossiest black SUV ever– ya know, as one does while in the desert. Check out the pics!

Kylie actually took to Instagram on Oct. 22 to post a sampling of the photoshoot. In the first pic which King Kylie shared, she proved exactly why she garnered that nickname. Wearing a literal crown, Kylie closed her eyes and touched the bejeweled emblem of royalty. “40 million followers???!!!!!!!!!” Kylie captioned the photo. “Wow. That’s a whole lot of people. I put up an exclusive @sashasamsonova shoot in honor of my dope ass fans only on TheKylieJenner.com and on my app.”

Now, getting to the photo to end all photoshoots. Kylie rocks this black body suit with some very strategically placed cutouts throughout to show off her perfectly toned tummy and legs. She leans against a car that looks like it costs as much as a small country, and rocks dark shades, naturally. However, that isn’t even the most eye-catching features of the pic. Nope, that is delegated to the massive, furry white boots which Kylie is rocking.

First Ever State Banquet

Kate Middleton’s Glittering Tiara At First Ever State Banquet

Kate Middleton attended a state banquet for the Chinese president at Buckingham Palace on October 20 sparkling from head to toe. With a formal dress code that called for a gown and tiara, Kate wore her third ever tiara since becoming Duchess, and it was stunning.

Kate joined husband Prince William and Queen Elizabeth in hosting the Chinese president and his wife, wearing the Lotus Flower Tiara, which was once owned and worn by the Queen’s mother according to People magazine. The Egyptian-style tiara is from the 1920s and was also worn by Princess Margaret.

With pearl and diamond details, Kate wore the tiara with her hair pulled back into a low knot style and her new bangs parted to the side. To fit with her over-the-top look, Kate wore more makeup than we’re used to, with defined brows and a much heavier brown eyeshadow and liner look.

If you want to follow Kate’s style in a more everyday friendly way, try accessorizing your updo with one of Kitsch’s bun pins. Available in gold and crystal options, the pins sit on a tiny hair comb that you can push in front of your bun.

Kate Middleton Ever Dress This Leggy

Would Princess Kate Middleton Ever Dress This Leggy And Sexy Like Spain's Queen Letizia

Move over Princess Kate; there's a new royal in town. Queen Letizia of Spain is winning the hearts of commoners -- at the chagrin of her father-in-law -- and she too has a penchant for fashion. She bleeds sex appeal and loves the leggy look in public.

Princess Kate Middleton is known the world over for her styling choices and frugal attire at times. From the start, the mystique of the British Royals having a new addition to the family soon became part of pop culture.

Years before, the world lost Lady Diana in a tragic accident. However, they inherited a charming and demure face in Kate Middleton that would allow Di's memory to live on vicariously through her son, Prince William.

Before Will and Kate became and item, the former party planner, showed off skin in a daring bikini, and legs for days in above-thigh frocks. Today, you're not likely to see Princess Kate in nothing more than dungarees at a World Cup game, floral dresses for the spring, and formal gowns that are high on embellishments and low on leggy.

Enter Queen Letizia of Spain and things get interesting. Let's just say that ever since she joined the Spanish Royal Family, she brought sexy back -- in a big way.

Kate Middleton and Doña Letizia may silently be jousting for fashion reign, but the two women have a bit in common. They both have two siblings apiece; both are brunette; both royal wives look like arm candy next to their handsome husbands; they had fairytale weddings; both have a fondness for tricked-out fascinators; and both were commoners (Kate, events planner, Letizia, journalist).

But that's where it ends for Princess Kate Middleton and Queen Letizia. The biggest difference is less of "who" they are wearing and more on how they looked while wearing the digs.

Letizia takes chances in fashion by showing off her royal assets. In addition to her winning smile, her pins take center stage; they seem to have no end at times. Kate, likely under the orders set forth by Queen Elizabeth, is prim and proper. Wardrobe malfunctions don't have a chance with the Duchess of Cambridge.

She's more reserved than her adventurous Spanish counterpart. How often have you seen Middleton assume the position with hands firmly gripped on a clutch drawn and towards her body? In contrast, Letizia exudes an open stride and welcoming stance.

On occasion, Kate may get away with a leg peep above the thigh, but she typically plays it safe and dons dresses that court the knees or hide them altogether.

Red Hot Lips

Selena Gomez’s Red Hot Lips On ‘Jimmy Fallon’

Selena Gomez, 23, looked stunning as usual during her Jimmy Fallon appearance. The “Same Old Love” singer’s black lined eyes and red lipstick makeup look got an evening-ready twist thanks to her curly hairstyle and v-neck black dress. But her makeup look can just as easily be worn in the day with deconstructed waves or a sleek hairstyle combined with more casual clothes. Get the how-to on her gorgeous makeup, below.

Makeup artist Hung Vanngo, who’s been working with Selena all throughout her NYC takeover (and who’s always keeping the Victoria’s Secret Angels glammed up) created her makeup look.

To channel Sel’s pretty makeup, concentrate on creating a flawless base by using a perfecting foundation like Koh Gen Do Aqua Foundation. You can create a classic black cat eye like Selena’s, or let the lipstick stand out on its own with just a bit of black mascara. For her pop of red, Hung used a lipstick with an orange undertone, which complemented her olive complexion. For a similar look, use YSL Rouge Pur Couture The Mats Lipstick in Orange Imagine for bright color with a modern matte finish.

After playing a hilarious game of Dubsmash with Jimmy, Selena took her perfect red lip to the Tonight Show stage to perform her newest single, “Same Old Love.”
