The Wedding Change

When I was little, I was a flower girl in a couple of weddings. Back then, I just thought weddings were pretty. Pretty flowers, pretty dresses, pretty girls. Just pretty.
As I began growing up, I would start putting myself in the bride’s shoes. What would my wedding be like? Who would I marry? Who would my bridesmaids be? What would my dress look like?
After I myself got married, I would go to weddings and reflect on my own marriage. I knew what it meant to be married. I would think about my husband. I would remember the feeling of being the bride. I would think about how excited the bride must be. How nervous. Unsure of what the future would hold as her role would change to wife instead of girlfriend.
This week, that all changed. This week, I realized that I am relating less to the bride, and more to someone else.
This week, I was at a wedding and I watched the family being escorted in. It was the typical walk in—the sweet great-grandparents, followed by grandparents, siblings, and then boom– the mother of the bride walked in.
I thought to myself “Oh she looks gorgeous! I wonder if the grooms or brides moms stress over their diet, hair, nails, and dress before their child’s wedding…” Then it hit me. I got the chills. One day I will be that mom. I will be the mom watching as her son gets married. I will be the one giving his heart to another woman.
I will be the one spending hours praying over my son’s wedding. I will be the one who hopes the bride will involve me. Hoping that I get to be there to watch her pick a dress. Watch her take bridal pictures. Help decorate. That young bride will be the girl I have prayed for, for years and years.
Someday it will be my time to be that mom.
And I feel that time closing in on me. I know it is still years away. But years turn to months, which turn to weeks, which turn to days, to hours, to minutes. It will be here before I know it.
I’ve never put much thought into it. I knew that the moms spend time on the wedding, but now I’m realizing that the moms spend years on the marriage itself. They spend years pouring their love, kindness, discipline, into that future bride or groom. Years are spent investing into their child’s future marriage.
And I realized as I watched that mom walk down the aisle this week that much more goes into preparing for your child’s wedding than just hair, nails, makeup, dresses and diets. I am preparing my child right now. My husband and I are raising him to be a husband, friend, servant, lover and more.
So while my time to be that mom may seem distant, I know that what I am doing right now will have a lasting impact on who my son will become when it is his turn to walk the aisle.

Dry Shampoo

Kylie Jenner’s Favorite Dry Shampoo
Kylie Jenner, 18, always has a perfect hairdo. Whether she is rocking braids, straight hair, her wigs, or a blowout, her hair always looks fabulous. The best part about it is that her hair always looks shiny, sleek, and fresh because of her favorite dry shampoo.
Drybar partnered with City of Hope donating $1 from each Pink Mini Detox sold to the organization. “City of Hope is a leading research and treatment center for cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Designated as a comprehensive cancer center, the highest recognition bestowed by the National Cancer Institute, City of Hope is also a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, with research and treatment protocols that advance care throughout the nation.”
Alli Webb, founder of Drybar, and Riawna Capri, co-owner of Nine Zero One, (the celebs’ fave hair salon), joined together to promote awareness for Breast Cancer. Alli is dying her blonde hair pink for the occasion, which will be done by the “Queen of Pastels,” Amber Maynard. Amber has also dyed Julianne Hough, 27, Hillary Duff, 28, and Demi Lovato’s, 23, hair pink, just to name a few.
Kylie swears by this dry shampoo and the fact that they are donating to Breast Cancer Awareness now just proves how amazing it is.

Get The Perfect Ponytail

Ken Paves is a renowned celebrity hairstylist who has worked with Jessica Simpson, Eva Longoria, Victoria Beckham and many more celebrities. He’s spilling on a hot hair trend — though it’s one that will never go out of style — below!
“Ponytails are one of my go to’s for many of my clients. I prefer an effortless looking ponytail worn with some volume through the crown and soft, slightly disheveled waves throughout. I usually ask my clients to air dry their hair so we can incorporate their natural texture into the look. This keeps it one of a kind!”
“Another way to approach ponytails is to keep a sleek, sophisticated look to them. For this look, you would create a deep side part. Apply a small amount of Ken Paves You Are Beautiful Repair & Nourish Shine Serum to your hair. Then use a Boar Bristle Brush or similar and sweep the hairline into place. Secure with a hooked elastic. Then you can take some ribbon in a similar color to your own and wrap it from the base of your ponytail down about 2 inches. This will add a very cool modern effect to it.”
Ponytail Hairstyles
When asked about different ponytails for different face shapes, Ken told me: “Ponytails look the best when the person wearing them is comfortable. For example, if you are typically uncomfortable with your hair away from your face, I recommend doing a loose side ponytail with some soft bits out along the hairline. I truly believe the most beautiful a woman can be is confident in herself!”

Updo Ideas For Short Hair

If you’re looking for updo inspiration now that you’ve made the chop, celeb short hair experts like Taylor Swift and Kristen Stewart have done your hair homework for you with their ponytail and low knot looks. Get the details on their latest styles, and decide if you want to make your short hair updo sleek and classic or modern and messy.
Of course TSwift would give us a classic updo style with a slicked back low ponytail that was parted to the side. But Taylor’s short pony got a bit of a twist (literally), as instead of using an elastic to hold it back, it was twisted once at the nape of her neck and bobby pinned into place for a half-pony-half-knot effect.
On the complete opposite side of styles, Emma Stone fixed her red lob into loose waves that were messily pinned under with face-framing pieces left loose. To copy her look, prep your hair with a texturizing spray and use a one-inch curling wand to create tousled waves.
Short Hair Updo Ideas
Julianne Hough proved that what you don’t have in hair, you can make up for in accessories. The Dancing With The Stars judge added a black headband with floral embellishment to her loose updo.
Kristen has been rocking the short hair for quite some time now, so it’s really no surprise she’s figured out how to style her super short hair into a knot. The genius to her style is that she kept the front volumized and messy, while twisting whatever hair fit into a tiny French twist at the back.

Lela Rose Spring 2016

Lela Rose always knows how to make a woman feel ultra feminine and demure (in a good way). Her trademark embellishments and delicate laces were all over her runway at New York Fashion Week on Sept. 14. The models glided under a ceiling of suspended tulips, and neon pink lighting cast a romantic glow on the audience. Be sure to click through the gallery to see all of the fabulous looks!
Lela Rose’s collection is everything we look forward to wearing in the springtime — florals, lace, organza, cotton eyelet — and her designs absolutely floated down the runway. From a sporty lace two-piece playsuit to a hand-detailed floral embroidered gown, Lela knows how to make a woman feel naturalistically beautiful. With a color palette of coral, ivory, fluorescent yellow and grey, the collection will look amazing both out in the country and on the concrete city streets.
Inspired by the natural landscape and bouquets of posies, Lela’s designs epitomize spring. A poppy floral print appeared in the form of a strapless gown, minidress and tiered flounce frock. A neon yellow jacquard top was modeled with matching shorts, and also showed up as a dress. My favorite look was a dark floral printed maxi dress that just looked so comfortable and sophisticated. Finally, the shoes, made by Gianvito Rossi, blended in perfectly.
Lela Rose isn’t just a fashion designer — she’s also an author of an upcoming book on Pinterest-worthy entertaining ideas. Many of the suggestions in her book are focused on outdoor dining, which is certainly consistent with Lela’s love for nature and affinity for beautiful flowers. If you can’t get your hands on her spring designs, her book offers a taste into her picture-perfect world!

Emily Blunt’s ‘Sicario’ Premiere Dress

While we saw a slew of gorgeous gowns at the 2015 Emmys, Emily Blunt, 32, is certainly going to give the leading ladies of the small screen a run for their money, at least when it comes to our best dressed of the week poll! The stylish star put a fashionable foot forward for the London premiere of Sicario on Sept. 21, where she opted for a form-fitting metallic column gown — and it proved to be just as stunning when she turned around, revealing her bare back.
Emily’s dress sparkled as she made her way down the red carpet at London’s Leicester Square. The sleeveless Prada gown featured a bare back, as bows adorned the top and the bottom of the cutout. She rocked a colorful matte lip and wore her hair back, keeping the focus on the interesting silhouette of the dress. Her pink stretch georgette gown featured rose gold paillettes and red double-satin trim, which really made a statement on the red carpet.
Not only was Emily’s gown perfectly appropriate for the premiere, but we loved the out-of-the-box, futuristic vibe of the metallic silhouette — and Emily has the confidence to pull off this look effortlessly. After such an interesting look at the UK premiere, we honestly can’t wait to see what else she shows off while on the promotional tour for the film.

2015 Emmys

Lena Headey’s Post-Baby Body Stuns At 2015 Emmys In Red Halter Gown
Lena Headey, 41, welcomed her second child into the world on July 10, yet you would never know. The gorgeous HBO star walked the red carpet at the Emmy Awards on Sept. 20 and was positively glowing!
Cersei Lannister was dressed to impress! The mother-of-two turned heads when she showed up in a bright red cleavage-baring dress. We repeat, did she honestly just give birth?!
Lena stunned in a Zuhair Murad’s garnet colored wrap front halter gown with plunging neckline in silk tulle which featured a crystal beaded overlay from the Fall 2015 Couture Collection. Simply glamorous!
Lena’s A Pro At Motherhood
The British actress who is already mom to 5-year-old son Wylie with ex-husband Peter Loughran, welcomed her second child a girl in July. She shared the news on a guest blog titled “Daughter” on Planusa.org.
“I am having a baby girl in six weeks,” Lena wrote. “My daughter will have freedom of choice. She will be free to dance, to sing, to be educated in the fields that spark her passion, to marry if she wants, to marry WHO she wants, to remain single, or to fall in love with another woman. She’ll be able to wear what she wants, put on lipstick, and read books that spark debate and expand her mind.”

Tennis-Inspired Collection

Katie Ermilio on Her Tennis-Inspired Collection
Fun fact: Designer Katie Ermilio is the granddaughter of Grace Kelly’s personal clothier. And it only takes a quick look at her collections to know that good taste must run in her family. Additionally she has fans in Selena Gomez, Jaime King, Kate Bosworth and Michelle Williams.
So when we got the chance to peek in on Ermilio prepping for her NYFW show on Wednesday, we jumped.
Unsurprisingly Ermiliio is hands-on until the last second. She literally had a pin cushion on her wrist and was sorting through laser-cut flowers to hand-sew onto her silk creations which were hanging in a range of watermelon-esque hues of deep green, burgundy, mauve-y pink and checkered white. But while the tones reminded us of the juicy fruit, she revealed something very different was behind the color palette.
What was your inspiration for this Spring 2016 season?
Katie Ermilio: If you look at the rack, the colors are very distinct. I was actually inspired by tennis courts. It’s kind of an abstraction of aerial views of tennis courts. I started by researching tennis attire from the 1930's and I was coming across all different images of different kinds of courts, because there’s books and books and tons of Pinterest boards dedicated to, like, that kind of thing — landscapes. And I found myself more attracted to that than the clothes, so the colors kind of came out of that. I have a bunch of pictures on the wall. The check is an abstraction of, you know, the graphic lines. Like if you look at an aerial picture of a court you’ll be like, Ohh!
But we usually think of tennis courts as green and white. Where did the pinks and reds come from?
Yeah, so after it rains a clay court turns dark red. In the bright sun it becomes bright pink. It’s pretty literal, in a very abstract way.
What are you sewing on here, these tiny pink and green flowers?
I did it all digitally in Illustrator — I drew them exactly how I wanted them to look, and then we used the fabrication of the collection and had them laser cut in different scales and then we’re applying them with Swarovski pearls to many of the pieces. It’s been happening but you know, final touches!
Are there lots of little last-minute details to take care of?
There is a bunch of stuff that is embroidered, believe it or not, but these were the last little guys to come in. I didn’t want to have to un-embroider once we put them on the models. It’s kind of out there for me.
Does this collection stay pretty true to your aesthetic?
Yes, and I’m always a feminist minimalist at heart — that’s been my signature since the beginning. But the clothes definitely have a sporty feel, there’s a little bit of an athletic vibe. Subtle, but it’s there. Rompers, and the hair is sort of slicked back and distressed, like a girl went out for a run and ran her fingers through her hair, like it’s still sort of sweaty. It sort of all ties with the athletic theme.
And then she throws on a gown…
Because that’s my woman!

NYFW Beauty

Braids Go DIY at Rachel Antonoff, Mara Hoffman
Braids on NYFW runways are a given, but this season they seem to be lots less complex than in the past. Rachel Antonoff’s show on Monday morning at the Plaza Hotel featured a camp theme and appropriately the hair was inspired by "a group of girls at camp sitting there doing each other’s hair," said Linh Nguyen for Cutler/Redken salons.
The models had one of three hairstyles, two of which appeared to be braids but were actually super simple series of knots in the hair. Nguyen used Redken Braid Aid 03 Defining Lotion in their manes before creating the looks, which also included a half-up, half-down style with two tiny fishtail braids starting above the ears, and a larger fishtail braid coming down the back, all meeting in the middle.
Mara Hoffman’s Willie Nelson–inspired runway show naturally featured catwalkers with long pigtail braids à la the musician’s longtime hairdo. And Thom Browne’s geisha schoolgirl world had models in dual braids as well, with plaid ribbons on the ends. Theirs, however, executed by Jimmy Paul for Bumble and Bumble, were sticking straight up like bunny ears, since the set was upside-down. Bumble and Bumble Thickening Hairspray, and floral wire, were key to the hair-raising look that was really just created with classic braids.
Which is to say, braids are going more DIY this season, which is good news for those who never got the hang of a five-strand braid or milkmaid 'do. As for Antonoff’s knotted style, said Nguyen, "It looks a lot more complex than it is, but it’s a look you can really achieve at home yourself. I think all these looks are."

Spring 2016 Collection

Rebecca Minkoff’s Spring 2016 Collection
Rebecca Minkoff‘s Spring 2016 collection debuted during New York Fashion Week at The Gallery at Skylight Clarkson Square on Sept. 12, where the designer sent 60s-inspired looks down the runway, inspired by Marianne Faithfull. From flowing frocks to florals and fringe, the cool contemporary clothing is bound to be appreciated by the designer’s celeb fans — and a star-studded front row took in the show!
Music always serves such a prominent role in the shows, and this season Rebecca didn’t disappoint, enlisting indie singer BØRNS to perform as the cool collection came down the runway — it was the perfect soundtrack for the show.
Models rocked wispy bangs and mascara on their top and bottom lashes, evoking a cool vibe that felt so much like London in the 60s, which was the perfect compliment to the collection.
As always with Rebecca, it wasn’t just about the cool, covetable clothing — the accessories were also totally on point, as models rocked gladiator heels, cut-out knee-high boots, crossbody bags and more. There were lucite heels and ankle boots, which complimented the looks perfectly and added to the mod-feel of the line.
My personal favorite look was definitely a lavender fringe suede cape and matching mini skirt, which I could totally see on eternal boho babe Vanessa Hudgens — it screamed cool festival fashion. A leather jumpsuit was sexy and sleek, and I could easily imagine Kendall Jenner rocking the get-up.
Olivia Holt, Lindsey Vonn, Louise Roe, Skyler Samuels, Jamie Chung, Jaime King and Coco Rocha were among the famous faces in the front row at the show, and they were all smiles as they checked out Rebecca’s Spring 2016 line.
Fringe was back in a big way, a trend that is totally having a moment for Fall 2015 — and it was a major player in Rebecca’s fall line as well.
